Lockdown Puncomega Barkbite Video
This was my contribution to last year’s Culture As A Dare Festival, short and spontaneous. It’s just as relevant in 2021 as Ireland grinds through another lockdown thanks to our governments inability to take it seriously enough to upset vested interests.

POSTCARDS AVAILABLE
I’ve finally started making postcards of my photographs, just four for now and all from the Dublin area. I had quite a few to choose from and the number of Instagram likes was a selecting factor which I feel somewhat queasy about but it feels good to get these out in the world. They’re on sale at my bandcamp and everywhere I play a show from now on.

Babbleon Cork LP-sized Prints

Since Babbleon Cork is an audio collage I made visual collages to accompany each of the 3 parts and another for the (virtual) front cover. They’re now for sale over on my bandcamp. Of course, your choice of print comes with a download of the album.

Life After Hate

As of today (16th March, 2019) all proceeds from sales of my most recent album Always Summer Somewhere(with prints or download only) will go to ‘Life After Hate’ an organization which works to prevent the spread of fascism through education, intervention and outreach to help those wishing to leave fascist groups. In 2017 the Trump administration rescinded a federal grant before the money was accessed and they have relied on donations from the public since.

NUMBERWANG DEBUT:   dANGERbANGER

“dANGERbANGER” The debut download from NUMBERWANG is here. Nothin’ but the hottest takes of limber yet molten fake jazz ‘n’ free funk recorded live at the Edge Hunters night in Anseo. It’s been years since I’ve played bass live and I’m having a blast with this new group.

The Edge Hunters night doesn’t get enough credit for being Dublin’s only regular freely improvised music night. FREE IN, FAR OUT, Every Thursday in Anseo.

SPRINGTHING & SPRINGKALIMBA AT SOUND CHECK IN SCIENCE GALLERY DUBLIN

2 instruments I made are in the Science Gallery until 24th September as part of their Sound Check exhibition. As always in the Science Gallery, this exhibition is highly interactive so call into the Gallery, have a play and record some loops. Here’s a video of visitors playing them at the opening night.

Some beloved ambient-ish music from recent years & back in the daze.

ALWAYS SUMMER SOMEWHERE LP SIZE PRINTS

As well as the cover, I made an image corresponding to each of the nine tracks on Always Summer Somewhere. I’m selling LP-sized prints of all ten images over on the Bandcamp page. Here’s a blog post about the artwork.

ALWAYS SUMMER SOMEWHERE – OUT NOW

This is an ambient album celebrating all that is hallucinatory and hypnagogic about Summer. The title “Always Summer Somewhere” comes from a seemingly throwaway comment by the superstar DJ Kaskade I heard in an interview. It’ll be a download for now and prints of the album artwork will be on sale later with discounts for those who buy the downloads.

ALWAYS SUMMER SOMEWHERE – NEW ALBUM OUT 21ST AUGUST

Here’s the title track for now. I’ll be launching the album on Day 3 of Gem Fest 2 at a free afternoon gig in the Phoenix Park bandstand. Gem Fest is brought to us by Little Gem Records.

CLUSTERS – TAPE/DOWNLOAD ON FORT EVIL FRUIT

This release is quite unlike anything I’ve ever worked on and I’m delighted to have it out in the world. As the name suggests, it’s mostly composed of dense clusters of notes layered & layered……You’ll heard dissonance and ambience depending on the volume level or how you happen to be feeling while listening.

“These compositions began as improvisations on an everyday digital piano with a few standard voices including organ and harpsichord. The pieces were recorded using a loop pedal and editing to stack clusters upon clusters, creating textures and layers of dissonance which would have been impossible to have performed live. These pieces are an attempt to create unsettling soundscapes using ‘musical’ rather than ‘noise’ material. Loop pedals are usually used for metric rather than textured musics and can become a crutch. This music grew from a desire to exploit other possibilities for live looping.”

FEF tend to drop new releases in batches and I’m currently enjoying Francis Heery’s unpredictable Cube of Unknowing project, also released today. A photo of mine from Dublin’s Liberties graces the cover of Texan Ovis Aurum‘s tape.
